Joan Miró i Ferrà ( / mɪˈroʊ / mi-ROH, [1] US also / miːˈroʊ / mee-ROH, [2] [3] Catalan: [ʒuˈam miˈɾoj fəˈra]; 20 April 1893 - 25 December 1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramist born in Barcelona. Professionally, he was simply known as Joan Miró.
